Empowering Youth Through One-on-One Support: Aitenga Returns to Golden High School

As part of our ongoing partnership with Golden High School, the Aitenga team recently conducted a series of one-on-one counselling sessions with students, following a formal request from the school’s administration. Each staff member was assigned a group of students, fostering deep and purposeful engagements that created space for both reflection and empowerment.

During the sessions, students opened up about a range of personal and academic challenges including peer pressure, uncertainty in A’ Level subject selection, low self esteem, and fear of academic failure. In response, our team provided tailored guidance, drawing from their own life experiences to offer practical advice, emotional support, and reassurance. The aim was not only to advise, but to connect, affirm, and inspire confidence.
This visit also included a follow-up with students previously counselled during our June outreach. We were humbled to receive overwhelmingly positive feedback, with many students expressing how the earlier sessions had helped them feel seen, supported, and encouraged to take meaningful steps forward.
One particularly inspiring case involved a student who had previously shared her fear of dropping out due to unpaid school fees and difficulties reaching the headteacher. After receiving support and encouragement from our team, she wrote a formal letter requesting financial aid. As a result, she was awarded a full bursary, enabling her to continue her education without fear or interruption.

At Aitenga, we believe that empowerment begins with presence showing up, listening, and helping young people tap into their own strength. These stories continue to remind us why our work matters. We remain committed to walking alongside schools, learners, and communities to nurture resilience, unlock potential, and shape brighter futures.
