Bridging Continents Through Conversation: Aitenga Connects with Feng Chia University
We strongly believe that empowerment does not stop at borders. In a meaningful cross-cultural exchange, we had the privilege of connecting with students at the Indigenous Students Resource Center at Feng Chia University in Taiwan, an experience that reminded us of the power of shared stories and genuine human connection.

Following a kind invitation from the Indigenous Students Resource Center and a strong recommendation from the Dean of the College of Social Innovation, Aitenga joined an online sharing session with students from Feng Chia University. While we had originally looked forward to visiting the campus and meeting everyone in person, public health measures at the time meant the session had to move online. Even so, the warmth and thoughtful preparation of the Resource Center team, combined with the students’ genuine curiosity about different cultures and social issues, made the distance feel much smaller.

During the session, Aitenga shared its experiences of promoting community empowerment in Uganda , the lessons learned, the challenges navigated, and the quiet, steady work of helping communities develop the confidence and capacity to shape their own futures. At the heart of our message was a belief we return to again and again: genuine support is not simply about providing resources or offering ready-made answers. It begins with understanding a person’s circumstances, walking alongside them as they discover new possibilities, and nurturing their ability to lead their own lives.

What moved us most was not the presentation itself, but the moment when students from entirely different backgrounds chose to lean in , to listen, to ask questions, and to become curious about a place that may once have felt unfamiliar. That curiosity is where understanding begins. And understanding, we believe, is the first step towards meaningful action.

The sharing session may be over, but the conversations it sparked continue to stay with us. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Indigenous Students Resource Center, the Dean of the College of Social Innovation, and every student who joined us and brought their openness and thoughtfulness to the session. And to the students of Feng Chia University our doors remain open. We warmly welcome you to visit Uganda one day and experience the energy, warmth, and resilience of this land for yourselves.
