Breaking the Silence: Empowering Students at Golden High School Through SRHR Education

Every young person deserves the knowledge to protect their health, respect themselves and others, and confidently shape their future. Today , Aitenga brought that belief to life through a series of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) sessions at Golden High School, Nsaggu thus creating safe, engaging spaces where young people could learn, ask questions, and speak honestly about topics that directly affect their lives.

Across the sessions, students explored healthy relationships, peer pressure, early pregnancy prevention, menstrual health, puberty, personal hygiene, self-esteem, consent, and informed decision-making. Many participants shared that they had previously lacked accurate knowledge on these topics and expressed genuine gratitude for the opportunity to engage in an open and supportive environment. Our trainers were consistently moved by the students’ honesty, curiosity, and willingness to participate.

One of the most memorable moments of the series came when facilitator Ms. Faridah Nalumansi of Muwala As’oboola Community Initiative courageously shared her personal journey as a survivor of teenage pregnancy caused by poverty. Her testimony deeply moved the room, sparking some of the most honest and meaningful conversations of the entire series. A dedicated session was also held specifically for student leaders, facilitated by AAR Uganda, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to champion positive behaviour and support their peers. Staff from both Golden High School and Aitenga described the sessions as insightful, timely, and deeply beneficial.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Ms. Faridah Nalumansi and Muwala As’oboola Community Initiative, and to AAR Uganda, for their invaluable partnership. A sincere thank you also goes to the Aitenga team for their dedication and care, which made each session possible. Together, we are building a generation that is informed, confident, and empowered to thrive.
