Aitenga Brings “Farm to Jar” Workshop to Kinaawa Community

The “Farm to Jar” Workshop was successfully organised at Madufafa Primary School in the Kinaawa community. The workshop brought together 39 participants, mainly women and youth, for a hands-on learning experience focused on fruit jam making and value addition. The training equipped participants with practical skills in producing fruit jam using locally available fruits as a pathway towards entrepreneurship, self-reliance, and small home-based businesses. The workshop was facilitated by Lukwago Asadu, a trainer from NAWI, while sponsorship was provided by CHIQ and Nova Gas, who also joined the organisers during the certificate awarding ceremony.

During the workshop, participants were divided into groups and actively engaged in the preparation of pineapple jam, mango jam, and mixed fruit jam. Through this practical approach, participants gained hands-on experience in food processing, hygiene, quality control, packaging, and small-scale marketing. In addition to the practical training, the facilitator conducted theory sessions on Business Case Development and Mindset Change, encouraging participants to identify opportunities within their communities and confidently pursue income-generating activities. The interactive sessions also strengthened teamwork, collaboration, creativity, and self-confidence among participants. One participant shared, “I have learned that the fruits around us can help us earn income. The workshop gave me confidence to start something small from home and improve my well-being.”

We also extend our sincere appreciation to CHiQ for their monthly contribution of UGX 1,000 from product sales across the country, and to Nova Gas for generously providing four 6kg gas cylinders every month to support our training activities and beneficiaries’ meals. CHiQ continues to enrich lives through innovative and stylish products including LED TVs, washing machines, and air conditioners, while Nova Gas champions safer and cleaner LPG solutions that replace charcoal hence promoting a healthier environment for the communities we serve. Their consistent support goes far beyond a single event, and we are truly grateful to have them as partners in our mission.

The Farm to Jar Workshop reflected Aitenga Women Empowerment Organisation’s continued commitment to empowering communities through practical skills development and entrepreneurship opportunities. Special appreciation goes to all sponsors, facilitators, partners, and participants who contributed to making the workshop both impactful and memorable. We also extend our gratitude to the Chairperson of Kinaawa, Chairman Lutaya, for honouring the event with his presence and supporting the certificate awarding ceremony alongside the organisers and sponsors. As Aitenga continues to expand its community empowerment projects, we look forward to organising more practical workshops that promote innovation, self-employment, and economic empowerment within local communities.
