Empowering Entrepreneurs: Business Classes Begin at CIDI

Students at the Community Integrated Development Initiative (CIDI) have taken the first step on their entrepreneurship journey, with the launch of a new series of business classes delivered in partnership with Aitenga Women Empowerment Organisation. The first workshop focused on branding and gave students practical insight into building a strong brand, presenting their ideas with confidence, understanding their customers, and creating products that stand out in a competitive market. Students engaged fully throughout the session. They shared their ideas, asked questions and took part in lively discussions. Many also gave positive feedback, saying how much they enjoyed and valued the experience.

Why entrepreneurship classes matter

Entrepreneurship training offers benefits well beyond the classroom, especially for young people and women in communities where formal job opportunities are limited.

  • Practical business skills: Lessons on branding, marketing, pricing and customer needs help learners turn skills they already have, such as tailoring, into viable businesses.
  • Self-reliance and income generation: Students who can start and manage their own enterprises are better placed to earn a sustainable income and support their families.
  • Confidence and communication: Presenting ideas and answering questions in a group builds the confidence needed to pitch to customers, partners and funders.
  • Job creation: Small businesses are a major source of employment in Uganda, and a successful start-up often goes on to employ others in the community.
  • Stronger products and markets: Understanding customers and branding helps small producers compete more effectively and earn better returns.
  • Community impact: When graduates succeed in business, the benefits spread to their households and neighbourhoods.

The classes at CIDI will continue to build on this foundation, equipping students with the knowledge and confidence to turn their ideas into thriving enterprises. “A big thank you goes to the CIDI team for hosting us and creating such a valuable learning environment,” said a representative of the Aitenga team. “We truly appreciate the knowledge shared and the meaningful engagement with our students.
