Learning to Measure What Matters: An M&E Capacity Building Workshop

As an organisation, we are committed not only to doing good work but to understanding and measuring the impact of that work. In line with this commitment, the Aitenga team recently undertook a Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) training, equipping us with sharper tools and a stronger framework to track, assess, and improve the programmes we deliver to communities across Uganda.

The training was both comprehensive and practical, covering a range of foundational and applied M&E concepts. Participants explored the core principles of Monitoring & Evaluation, unpacked the key differences between monitoring and evaluation, and learned how to develop SMART indicators ,a critical skill for designing programmes that are measurable and accountable. The team also identified data collection methods most relevant to the nature of Aitenga’s work, ensuring that the knowledge gained can be directly applied to our ongoing and future programmes. The training was facilitated by Barbara Nakijoba, whose exceptional energy, warmth, and engaging facilitation style brought every concept to life. From thoughtfully designed group work to individual encouragement, Barbara created a learning environment that was both intellectually stimulating and genuinely enjoyable. Her ability to connect theory to practice made a lasting impression on the entire team.

This training would not have been possible without the generous support and presence of our partners. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Sustainability Development Centre (SDC), Golden High School, and Mama Tulia Ministries for their continued investment in Aitenga’s capacity-building journey. Your support strengthens our organisation and the communities we serve. A special thank you goes to Grant Thornton for graciously hosting the training and providing a warm, professional, and hospitable space for the day. The environment they created truly set the tone for a productive and memorable session.

As Aitenga continues to grow, so does our commitment to learning, accountability, and evidence-based impact. This training marks an important step in ensuring that every programme we run is not only felt by communities but also measured, documented, and continuously improved. We are grateful, we are equipped, and we are ready.
