Strengthening Our Budgeting and Financial Planning Skills

We recognise that effective budgeting is at the core of strong project delivery and organisational sustainability. To strengthen our financial systems, we were honoured to host Hiroaki Uchida from Grant Thornton for a practical training on efficient budget development.

The session focused on analysing historical budget data to identify trends and improve forecasting, setting clear budget objectives aligned with organisational goals, and strengthening our ability to plan, track, and monitor budgets effectively. These skills are essential in ensuring transparency, accountability, and responsible resource use. A key highlight was the hands-on Excel session, where team members explored practical functions to improve budget structuring and analysis. The training provided both a refresher and an opportunity to build new technical skills.

Mary Nansiti, our new intern, shared that she learned how to structure proper budget categories, an area in which she had limited experience , and appreciated the practical nature of the session. This training marks the beginning of several internal capacity-building initiatives planned for the year.
